IP based video surveillance : Evaluating the trends The most common network wiring protocol is EIA/TIA 568-B; 568-B is the definition of pin/pair assignments for eight-conductor 100-ohm balanced twisted-pair cabling, such as Cat5e or Cat6 unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cables. Because this protocol has absolutely no provisions for coax, an organization planning to migrate to IP video from analog will need to do this via a well-planned UTP structured cabling network.
Card-connected access control systems : Knowing it better Card-connected technologies should apply industry-proven crypto -graphy to provide the highest level of assurance; All card-connected privilege data should be digitally signed; and, Before providing access, each card-connected lock should validate the digital signature to prove that the card was issued by the PACS – the PACS is a “trusted source” and that the access privileges on the card were not altered.
Access control & parking management: Making the synergy The single largest change is the emergence of IP-based access control, which makes it possible for the access system to provide centralized manage ment of one or more physical facilities over the Internet or IP cellular networks. The use of IP networks greatly reduces the need for proximity between the control system and the panels, gates, or other physical devices used to collect credentials or control physical access.
ID badging : An establishing the right method Depending on volume and budget, it may make sense in your situation to have two badging stations; one located in the Human Resources area for employees, and one at security for anyone needing a temporary badge.
Blending the digital video with access control Video and access control are available as separate stand alone systems where no communication between the systems exists. Operators manage each system separately. Light integration occurs when video and access control systems send alarms or events to each other but the operator still has to use two or more application user interfaces.

Minimising the counterfeiting of ids Security guards stationed a front desk often optically ID the card holders; Event managers need to visually scan a crowd to quickly see who has proper credentials; Power outages or disasters can cause electronic authentication systems to fail. This is where visual security elements on a card can enhance security.
Understanding the badge & card solutions The reader reads the card as it comes near the antenna. Antennas are the conduits between the prox chip and the transceiver, which interfaces with the application being used. The reader then emits radio waves, and depending upon its power output and the radio frequency used, the readable distance from the reader is variable from an inch to hundreds of feet.
Developing the ecumenical security plan One other access point is your air intake vents. We are not talking about a disgruntled ex-employee entering the facility through the vent, but introducing some toxic substances to your building to disrupt your operations. Are your air vents on the roof or at ground level.

In the past, many systems used a basic form of interfacing video and access control systems, which basically consisted of dry contact closures.

The government of India has implemented several steps that have enabled the builders and developers to stick to the standards resulting into safer layouts.

Networking Safety : The critical factor The problems start as soon as the operator attempts to restart the machine. Because the welded contact never dropped out, the safety relay inhibits restarting. Unfortunately the AUX contact now open provides no guidance. An experienced maintenance person may conclude that something is wrong with the e-stop that was used last, causing the shutdown.
Working safely with energized electrical systems Electrical work is hazardous, but it doesn’t need be dangerous. Lockout/tagout provides the safest work environ -ment, but it is not always possible. If employees must work on exposed energized equipment put your thinking cap on. You have to ensure your employees are safe when working on energized electrical systems.
Building safer electrical culture Electrical safety focuses on the prevention of shocks and burns. Electrical explosions or arc flash likely will cause burns, while simple contact with live voltage results in a shock. The physical and financial severity of the incidents can be diminished because of the tools we use. For example, an arc flash with injury can cost 32 million to 40 million.
Handling employee health: Reducing risk by former recognition symptoms Repetitive stress injuries (RSIs) or repetitive stress disorders (RSDs) are quite costly to businesses in all sectors. There are economic costs for medical care, lost time, lost productivity and administrative issues. There are also the “human costs” relating to lost wages and quality of life factors.
Developing the healthy safety strategy A safety leader not only encourages and accepts input regarding how the decision could negatively impact exposure, culture or systems, he or she also establishes mechanisms that solicit this type of information as a standard part of the decision-making process.
Achieving the optimum accuracy in gas detection A classic illustration shows a target with many arrows closely clustered around the bull’s-eye. This scenario would be both accurate and precise. If many arrows were closely clustered far from the bull’s-eye, the situation would be precise, but not accurate.
